Crude oil is the energy of the world. Every nation in this thrives on crude oil to survive. It is one of the most sought after commercial commodity in the world. Every nation wishes to be an oil producing country but not all had their wishes come true. Crude oil is formed from fossils of dead animals billion of years ago. It can be found in the sea or inland. The benefits of being an oil producing country are endless.
Ghana recently joined the list of oil producing countries in the world. The expectations are huge as everybody expects the country to reach a developed country status within the next 10 years from now. With the production of oil in the country, this goal can be achieved but is it always that easy. Oil is a blessing to a nation if nurtured well but can be a curse if misused. Nigeria has been an oil producing country over the past two decades but can they be said to be a developed nation?
The people of Ghana are expecting so much development in a short time. A country with other natural resources such as gold, diamond, bauxite, timber, cocoa, coffee and water bodies just to mention was not able to attain a developed nation status, can the oil alone change the misfortunes of the people? Improper management of the oil revenues will still make the country less developed. Just like the other resources mentioned above revenues have been misused so is what I am afraid might happened to the oil’s.
There comes this joy knowing there might be a bright light at the end of the tunnel. If the oil revenue in Ghana is put to proper use, the country will see tremendous development. The oil revenue can be used to positively better the lives of Ghanaians.
Football in Ghana will be affected and the
Ghana music industry too will be affected. Most importantly, agriculture, education, transportation and infrastructural developments would be enhanced.
Oil revenue is just like fire, it can be a good servant but a bad master if care is not taken. The good things the country will benefit from the oil revenue is endless if proper management is carried out. But if misused, it can cause chaos, anarchy and the country will lose so many international investors trust. It is the hope of every Ghanaian as the country has began commercial production of oil, it will bring a positive change in their lives.
